Description
WARNING: this is not your average computer coding class!
Are you creative and have always wanted to learn about Coding? Then come join us in our fun-packed zany coding session where you can do just that - combine your creative thinking with computer thinking!

We are going to have heaps of fun exploring various ways to do coding: from giving zany coding instructions to a human computer - yes, you read correctly! - to practising block coding using Scratch and then testing your skills by using Makey-Makey electronics kits to control a computer game!

Predict, Explore, Investigate and Think like a Computer Engineer to: master the skills of coding to develop your unique project. We will help you develop your creativity and computational thinking to truly understand how coding works, then have fun using Scratch (the popular programming language that uses blocks to create your project) and finally taking your skills further to ‘out of the box thinking’ (literally) by applying your coding with electronics to control a computer game. This is a great start for beginners in coding.

So, let’s get creative and coding!

Daily Program
Description
Are you a creative designer that is looking for a fun challenge? We have exactly the right session for you!

Combine your creative art talents with Electrical Engineering skills to make your very own unique 2019 Calendar. Use it for the year as a reminder of special events, birthdays and other important dates. The challenge is for you to design your calendar using electrical circuits with little coloured LEDs to light it up!

Predict, Explore, Investigate and Think like an Electrical Engineer to: learn about the principles of Electrical Engineering, discover how to design a schematic diagram and then model and test your own simple series and a parallel series electrical circuit design. Of course, the highlight of the session is to bring it all together by applying your new circuit design skills to light up your 2019 Calendar artwork.

Go home with a great gift for your family or friends - or just to enjoy for your own use.

Let’s get designing!
Thursday, January 3
Sea Acres Rainforest Centre Meeting Room B1
Primary School Year 3 to Year 6: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Program: Designed by Nature: Summer in the Rainforest
I am in the natural world…I am exploring!
Seedling
Daily Program
Description
Do you love to learn all about animals and nature? We have a very special Designed by Nature session lined up for you…Summer in the Rainforest!

You are going to work with science to use experiments, simulations and field work to discover all the life processes of animals and plants.

Predict, Explore, Investigate and Think like a Biologist to: firstly, learn about the various life processes of plants and animals by using a fun simulation activity game. This is followed by hands-on experiments such as making a pair of ‘balloon lungs’ to test and see how animals breathe and another to investigate how plants respire. Then, just like real scientists in the field, take a field trip to explore the Rainforest to undertake your own research using scientific equipment to gather evidence of animal and plant life processes.

And you also get to take home your very own science logbook to track your experiments over the Summer to continue your science journey.

Enjoy discovering science in the natural world!

Daily Program
Description
Have you ever bought a pack of biscuits which were disappointingly smashed? Experienced eating from a week-old chip packet that has left their contents without that satisfying crunch! Well, today we challenge you to become a materials design inventor.

You will test the properties of various materials, investigate what materials are best suited for a particular need and create your own innovative packaging for a delicate delivery mission!

Now it is your turn to be the inventor and solve these problems.

Predict, Explore, Investigate and Think like a Scientist to: problem solve and use your entrepreneurial thinking to make your ideas a reality. Discover the many materials found in our world. Some are natural, and some are man-made. The properties of materials are what gives them their characteristics and therefore their usefulness. You will even get to see the details of those materials under high resolution microscopes in the lab.

Are you ready for this invention challenge?
